Spreadsheet does not recalc

I have experienced several instances where a Microsoft Excel cells does not recalculate even though I have calculate set to "automatic" under options. It usually happens on large spreadsheets with many tabs. Also, I do not have any circular references in the spreadsheet. I have f9 to manually recalc, but I have not had any luck. Does the Workbook contain any VBA code, specifically any 'Private Sub Worksheet_Calculate()' entries or entries that might leave the Events trigger set to False?

Does the book calculate after close and re-open?
