Take a look here, this might help, 2003 is not that much different to 2000 on the face of it.

Hi - I'd recommend moving away from either Office 2000 or XP, as Microsoft no longer supports these versions (Office XP may have some support corporately, but it's near end-of-life). The key concern is security for untrusted documents.

Personally, I like O/2003 but am anxious to try out O/2007 in the future. Each version does require more disk space for the install and a little more processing power, (if you're on an older system). The key concern for Excel 2000 workbook compatability would be any advanced VBA programming, macros, and scripts which may not be automatically compatible in the newer version.

For O/2007, I may take a few days to learn the new interface but once the learning challenges are conquered, this version will be on support by MS for years to come (while O/2003 would be heading for end-of-life in probably 2-3 years). If I were buying for home and had the horsepower, I'd go with O/2007 (esp. if your company does), so that you'd be fully compatible if you took any work home.
