Sumif ?

Hello,

Do you know what formula to use for the following scenario...


I want to be able to find all the letters and sum their respective values.

for example in column D, i want to be able to find all the letter v's and put their sum, all the letter s' and its sum, respectively


Basically, column d, should find all the values in column a and aggregate them and put their related values...

hope this makes sense. please see attached spreadsheet.
i'm assuming its the sumif function,?
