    Linking Spreadsheets

    Hi

I have 2 spreadsheets (lets call them A & B), A links to B to extract information from it. If I make a copy of A and call it A2 and save it with the information from B everything is fine, if the information in B then changes and I then update A (but not A2) with the new information everything is fine.

The problem I am having is if I then go and open both A and A2 at the same time and DO NOT click on the 'Update Links' button both of the spread sheets display the same data. If I open them one and close it and then open the other and close it, the information is correct and different from each other, but if I open them both at the same time, the 2 files display the same information.

Does anyone know why this is happening and how I canget around it?

    Many thanks

    Steve

I guess that you a falling foul of excel trying to guess what you want,
rather than doing simply what you request.

I suspect that when excel has two identical links active it will select the most recently updated one.

Try starting up a new instance of excel rather than openning all the files within a single excel window.

    Mark.
