Auto Adding a Numeric Value Based on a Drop-Down List Choice

I am a fairly novice user at Excel, and I am working on a bandwidth appraisal matrix where I need a "score" to display in the cell to the right of a drop down list. For example, if I choose an option from the list in A2, I want A3 to display a number based on that choice. Any ideas on how to accomplish this? I've searched all over the Web and find a lot about conditional formatting, but it doesn't quite get me there.

Depending on what exactly the options are and their corresponding values, there are a few ways you can accomplish this.

Generally a Vlookup() formula would be the way to go. Have a look at Vlookup in Excel help.

If the value is a multiple or other pattern of the option, you may be able to use a simple arithmetic formula to get the result.

If you are still having trouble, post back a sampling of the options vs. the results and we can help.
Where there is a will there are many ways.
