    Smile Macro box trick

    Hi

    i'm looking at a workbook, it has 5 sheets:A,B,C,D,E

    1) in sheet A, there is a box which asks me to enter the number of rows: 20 or 30 or 25 ....If I enter 20 in this box, there will be 20 rows in sheet B. If I enter 30 in this box, there will be 30 rows in sheet B. If I enter 25 in the box, there will be 25 in the sheet B. And so on.

I just want to know what kind of trick is this. I first thought that they might have used VBA (which I know nothing about), but I checked the visual basic editor, and the module has nothing in it. So, i don't think this is a VBA thing. Probably just plain Excel.

    2) Another thing with this sheet A is : the background of the sheet is BLANK, there is no gridline, no cell, it is like a blank paper , i.e. zerox paper. How do they create this kind of sheet?

    3) there are 2 boxes (2 cells) C and D. C has the small circle inside which asks me to check if I'm male. D has a small circle inside which asks me to check if I'm female. You can check either circle. How do they create such boxes ?

    Please help if you can.
Thanks a lot for your help.

    Hi Danguyen_uci,

    1) Not positive but it sounds like you are using a Macro Check by going to Tools/Macro/Macros look in the Macro box that pops up.

    2) The grid lines can be removed by clicking Tools/Options in the lower left of the Options box you will see a box with a check in it next to Gridlines, un check it and the lines will disappear.

    3) You are either using a function in the Forms toolbar or the Control Toolbar Go to Tools/Customize in the Customize box you should be able to find both of these Toolbars.

    Hope this helps

Another way, and the most obvious to get rid of the grid is fill the whole sheet white. Click in the corner between the A and the 1 (or select all by typing Ctrl-A), then fill the background with white.

When you say there are a certain number of rows, what exactly do you mean? Are only those cells selectable while others are not? Are they the only visisble cells?

One trick that can be done is to set a conditional format that refers to the number on the other sheet. You would have to assign a named range to the cell on the other sheet that contains the number of rows you want. Lets assume you choose name LINES.

On the original sheet, you can highlight as far as you would like, and choose conditional formatting, and enter formula: =ROW($A1)>LINES

Choose to format the cells by coloring them gray. Now they will look like they dont exist, even though they are still there

    Red face

I believe the other cells are not visible , but they are THERE since I still can go to those cells. for example, if I enter 20 in the box in sheet A, i get 20 yellow rows in the sheet B.

Could you explicitly write out the code for me since I'm not very good at Excel, I'm trying to learn ???

what is a conditional formatting ? and what do you mean by highlight as far as I want on the original sheet A ?? I'm just confused
