    excel 2007??? why should/did i upgrade?

long time excel user. have always enjoined the speed/capabilities that it has offered.

however, recently my new company has desired to "upgrade" to excel 2007. as of now (after a few weeks of use), all i can say is that excel 2007 is "great" for people who have never used excel before, and a pain for those who have.

it feels slower, the hotkeys/shortcuts have changes, and the only noticeable advantages are that it is much prettier.

the speed is really a crucial issue, can somebody confirm that excel 2007 is in fact MUCH, MUCH, more resource intensive than excel 2003?

    thanks

Personally, I've only been playing with it for a week or so, but I will find great use in the row and column increases, as I work with some large database extractions into the hundreds of thousands of rows. (End users can't handle anything more complex than Excel, so I give them data in that format (and usually have to sort/modify it for them, too).

There's also some new built-in functions that require UDF's in 2003 or earlier. And, having used Office from version 5.0 through 2003, I actually like the new ribbon bar/menus in 2007. More available directly within a click or two.

Just my opinion. As for speed, I haven't put it through it's paces with anything very intensive, but it seems to keep up with my Office 2003 for any basic tasks. I have read a few people's blogs about some speed/resource issues in 2007, but can't state I've seen it in person.

If you're in charge of the change, can't you just suggest keeping the current system for a while longer until you have more experience with the new program?
