    Vertical text

Writing horizontally the text in a cell normally just continues into the space of the neighbouring columns, unless they are occupied, in which case the text is disrupted at the limit of its cell.
When writing from bottom and upwards the text is always disrupted and does not continue up into the neighburing row even though this is blank.
Is it possible to make it continue as if I wrote horizontally?

I know I can just wrap the text to make it visible, but it is not the solution I want.

And by the way - often when editing a formula the formula text is wrapped even though the wrap option is unchecked. It is quite annoying when you have a long formula revealing a two-character answer for which you want to spend only limited space, so I would like to know how always to make formulas appear all over the page without being disrupted.

perhaps this would be the answer

you can merge cells to avoid disruption or overwriting the next one.
suppose you type long word in A1 and it goes into the space of B1, you can merge A1 and B1 or just increase the width of column suitable for you data.

for continuing the text in new line you should press Alt+Enter then continue typing.

regarding your formula question please provide some more info. with formula example.

    Regards.

Thanks, but I also don't want to merge the cells.

    select the column.
go to menu Format > Column > Autofit Selection

it will autmatically adjust the width of column according to the largest text in the column.
