Question Highlight Duplicate Entries on a Row

    Hello all

I've joined this forum as I will quite freely admit that I am something of a novice when it comes to using excel formulas. I believe my problem is a fairly straightforward one but with my limited knowledge I have been unable to crack it.

I have a spreadsheet that is six columns wide, the first four of which contain a list of names and personal identification details. The last two columns contain a list of dates. The first set of dates (in column E) are the same i.e. 04/03/2007 but the dates in column F are not. There are roughly ten rows of data per person.

What I have been trying to figure out is a formula that would highlight any rows where the date in column E matches that held on that same row in column F. I thought any affected rows could then be highlighted by way of an asterisk in column G. If anybody can point me in the direction on this I would be most grateful.

You could highlight the cells that do not match with Conditional Formatting. For instance you select the cells in column F, then go to Format > Conditional Format and with Condition1, set to, Cell value is, not equal to, and type in E1. Select the Format buttom and colour the cell or the font or any type of format you want.

If you want an asterisk in column G anywhere columns E and F match, in your first data row of G put this formula:

    =IF(E2=F2,"*","")

Then fill down for the rest of your rows. (Change E2 and F2 as needed, depending on your starting row. E2 and F2 assumes G2 as the start.)
