comparing-What I wish to do

I am trying to compare information that I have from two seperate spreadsheets. What I wish to do is find out if something from one column in a spreadsheet is in my second spreadsheet and to display the information on the second spreadsheet if at all possible. I have tried various formulas with no success. Can anyone help me at all?
