Here is an extremely simple problem for computer-savvy people (I'm obviously not...) - I logged all of my flight time in a simple Excel spreadsheet to be able to calculate flight times on individual aircraft, etc. for airline applications. The data entry is rather laborious and I would like to simplify things somewhat... The problem: I have flown hundreds of different aircraft, each with a rather long registration or N-number. I would like to establish a table or "array" of the different aircraft numbers somewhere (typing each registration once) and then be able to enter a 1, 2, or some set of simple symbols (one variable per airplane) in the "Registration" column and have the long, unique registration number automatically be entered in the individual cell pertaining to each flight. At the moment I am working with 20 different "tail numbers" that need to be entered from 2005 through present.

I looked at some Excel examples, VLOOKUP, etc. but can't make the leap from those examples to my problem. Your help would really be appreciated.
