I have a formula =LEN(B4)-LEN(SUBSTITUTE(B4,"2","")) and I want to enter the answers down a different column all the way down (say column E,F,G,H,I etc. It works in one cell only.

Are you sure that you have not turned off Auto-Calculation?
It works for me. Dragging and all.
I took off autocalculation and it still doesnt work. Is there any way to view a formula down an existing column because the first column works.
I was NOT suggesting that you should turn autocalculation off. I was asking if it was. Sorry if I confused you with that.
When you copy if to another column, does the formula still point to column B?
=LEN(B4)-LEN(SUBSTITUTE(B4,"2",""))
You might want to replace B with $B
