    keyboard shortcut for search

    hello,

I am sort of new to excel and am using it for work.

i need to create a shortcut (ideally ctrl-z) that will allow me to search column D which has a tonne of street names in it. i need to do a "custom" search and enter "contains" and then have the field on the right be left empty for me to enter what i need to enter.

I want to hit ctrl-z and have that blank field brought up for my to enter something to search for and have all those criteria met "custom-contain-??whatitype??"

I've tried using the record new macro function but it won't let me leave the dialogue box open for me to enter my street name.

i hope i explained that well enough....

basically i want to hit ctrl-z and have that custom-contains for column d open and ready for me to search.

thanks for any help you can provide.

sorry to say that you have not explained your problem clearly.
Ctrl+Z is to undo the action not for searching, I cannot understand this.
please make it clear with providing info about your data and cell references the data is located in.

    yo

I just want to be able hit some key combination so that the dialogue box that comes up when i click on the column and select "custom" and then hit the drop down menu in that dialogue box that says "contains" and then be left with the empty field for me to type into...

in column D on my spreadsheet i have the names of thousands of streets and need to bring up ones that contain say "water" or "redwood" ... when i click on the top of the column (the upside-down arrow) the third choice from the top is "custom"... i click that... then click "contains" and want to search that field...because i am going to be doing that a lot and clicking all the way through the choices...

    hello

it does not have to be ctrl-z... it can be anything really ... as long as it is a key combination. ctrl-abcdefghijk etc... anyone would do... it just wont' let me leave the dialog box open ... to finish the action i have to either click "ok" or cancel"
