    saving in excel

Heya al, got a problem with my excel. Im using ms excel 2003 part of office. Now ive entered some stuff into my sheet and saved it. When i want to change it- i cant.

I changed the stuff entered in previously and clicked save. However instead of saving straight away- it opens the save as dialog box. Ive clicked the file and clicked yes to over-right it but when i got back into the file- it displays the old data.

Also on the top on the excel- where it displays the name- it puts a 1 next to the file name. It should not do this for files saved with new names- only for default files??

    Any suggestions pls??
    Thanks

    Hi,

when you Save, does it suggest a new name?

Where are you trying to save, is it to a Read-only device (ie, a CD?)

If, after you Save, you then SaveAs and select a new name, does the new file have your changes?

Do you have the rights to save?

When you select to OverWrite does any error message follow?

    any other details?

    saving in excel

I have the rights to change, and when im saving my changes- by clicking on the disk- it opens the save as dialog- which suggests a new name. Im saving to my desktop- where again- i do have rights to save and chnage. Its a normal file, not a read-only.
When i select overwright- it brings up the normal overright message- "do you want to replace this file???". Ive selected yes- but when i go back into the file it doesnt have my changes- and it also has a 1 at the top of the file- right next to the file name
    thanks

I guess one just has to luv the majic desktop as a place to save.

Does your desktop have a folder of the same name as the file that you are trying to save?
Did you open the Desktop and test your (supposed) rights to save there?
If you open the desktop and locate the file, is the file a true Filename.xls or a link to some other file?
(you may need to set the options on your Explore to not hide known filetypes)

If you open the desktop and Rightmouse, Properties on the file, is it Read Only, is it the file that you thought it was, is it correctly dated?

Can you copy the file from there to a new folder (say C:\ExcelTest ) and then open, change, and save the file, does it save changes?

Q what is the Filename that you are trying to save?
