    Offset command

This is basic but it has me pulling out my hair! I've tried using the OFFSET command without luck, so, I went to the help section and copied their example to experiment with, also without luck. The cell that I type the offset command in doesn't return the value I expect, it just continues to show the OFFSET command I typed in. I made sure to place an "=" sign in front of it......What's going on? Does anyone have an example I could use in a spreadsheet to play around with?

    Thanks for your response, Carim.
Okay, I copied/pasted your offset command into a worksheet and I put the number 6 in b2.....nothing. I expected the command to disappear and a 6 to be in its place. What am I not getting (besides the answer I want)?

    Hi,

Carim's formula works for me. Try trying in.

PS. You can look it to always look at B2 by adding the $ symbols

    =offset($A1,1,1)

Well, I'm still scratching my head but I did get it to work.
I originally pasted the command into a blank worksheet in my workbook
(I have 4 worksheets going in this workbook).
Anyhow, I tried opening a brand new worksheet and it worked as advertised. Not sure why I couldn't get it to work in the first place. This is how most of my computer/software related issues are resolved.....I eventually get what I want (re-booting is the best tool in my mostly empty diagnostic toolbox), but haven't a clue as to what caused the original problem. Thanks again for you help.
