    Problem Maneuvering within formulas

I'm having an issue where excel will not allow me to use ctrl-shift-arrow to maneuver about ranges.

for example if i wanted to enter a sumproduct formula i'd choose the column header, press ctrl-shift-down arrow, and the column would highlight.

For some reason when I do that now it exits my formula input and tells me my formula is no good.

Oddly enough pressing shift-ctrl-down arrow does work, but feels very unnatural to me.

Originally I thought I had a macro or something assigned to ctrl-shift-arrow but no matter which arrow i press i get the same error. so what setting did I screw up and how do I fix it?

    thanks,

    Hi,

It's not a problem with transition being ticked. Try

Tools > options >transition > turn them all off

    Hi,

to my knowledge there should be no difference between Shift/CTRL and CTRL/Shift, it's the next key that is the trigger (like just pressing Shift, the next letter is the trigger)

Have you tried another keyboard, or invert this one and shake violently ?

i guess i should have also mentioned that i am able to use ctrl-shift functionality when i'm not inputting a formula.
It will select the range as I'd expect.
When inputting a formula it errors out.
So I don't think it's an issue with my keyboard

On the transitions tab nothing was checked.

It also intermittently occurs. For example i can know press c-s again and it works. but I didn't do anything besides not use excel for an hour or two. I didn't even close the app and restart it....odd

any other suggestions would be appreciated

I guess that 'resources' question starts to appear, is your disk badly fragmented and full? (I know it shouldn't matter with the new systems, but . . )

Are you running multiple large worksheets, or other 'heavy' programs at the same time?

do you have any OnTime set?

nah. and even off a hard reboot with nothing open but excel the problem persisted

new computer with plenty of RAM.

i think i'm probably going to have to learn to live with it. my coworker has experienced a similar issue before, but there's minimal company software running in the background.

    no OnTime macros running...

can I presume 'new' means Windows XP with 2003 ?

    and patches etc ?

does 'minimal company software' have any 'hotkey' interrupts? - any key-detect - I'm curious that Shift/CTRL differs from CTRL/Shift

ya. it's a PentiumM 1.86ghz laptop with 1gb of RAM running office 2003.
the only programs i know are running in the background are symantec antivirus and Novell NetWare Services

the ctrl-shift vs. shift-ctrl is puzzling as is the fact the issue only arises when entering a formula but not when highlighting a range outside of a formula.

    Hi,

well Novell and Symantec shouldn't hurt, I have run both, on here and a lappy with less than the gig with varying systems up to XP and Office 2003, looks like as you said, 'building a bridge'.

    Cheers
