    'Colors' as criteria?

when I was trying a sumif and sumproduct formula today (btw, with help of answers I found in your forum, so: thx!!), I was thinking: I wish I could use the different color-marked fields in my sheet as criteria for the formulas, instead of referring to the values in those colored fields...now...is there such a possibility...?

Thx for your reply...I (aka 'notVBAntor") wouldn't know how to put such code to use for an excel formula but I certainly appreciate the input.
In my formula, what was time- and space-consuming was that to compute the "total", I had to define sumif functions for about 8 different values referring to 5 different number columns each...an amount of "sumifs" and "sumproduct" that exceeded the length of the formula forcing a consolidation of the remaining values into a separate cell. I just added one sumif and sumproduct after the other wich turned out to be too long.

I found a simple solution to my long formulas. Not interesting, so not worth posting it here. But thanks for your help. I am sure I will have more questions in the future. This is a great forum!
