Control boxes disappear after opening sheet

We have one computer that the contol boxes disappear on after opening a spreadsheet. Like other machines, it is running Excel 2003, Win XP SP2 and all updates to both have been applied. We have set security to medium on this and the others. When we open a spreadsheet on this computer, we get the Macro warning and click Enable. The control boxes appear for just a second then vanish. Where there were radio buttons, there is nothing. Where there were check boxes and combo boxes, there is now a "missing image" box (a blank with a red X in the corner).
We uninstalled and reinstalled a Complete install of Office 2003 and verified all updates are applied. And we have concluded that this is the only one of our computers this happens on. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    ActiveX security

    Hi Jim,

The behavior you see is similar to opening an Excel 2003 file on a Mac running Office 2004 which doesn't support ActiveX (OCXs). I did some research in the Microsoft Knowledge Base and found this:

ActiveX controls do not load or function as expected when you open a document with Office 2003 program

    Hope this helps,
