Links between Excel data and Word tables

I am currently workng on a complicated data process. We need to have a Word document with lots of tables of data in.

Imagine each single Word document contain lots of data sets presented in tables about one football team - currently blank

We want to populate all the tables in each document with info held in various tables in an excel file.

Say the excel spreadhseet has lines for twenty football teams.

I want to be able to easily enter the data for one of those lines into the Word document

Hyperlinking gets me from the Word document into the Excel file but thats it.

    Does this make sense?

    Hi,

If I may give you a couple of basic recommendations ...

    1. Design your Word Tables in a consistent way with your XL worksheet
    2. Use the MailMerge option which links XL to Word

You're definitely onto something - but I cant quite seem to make it happen! All the Excel help seems to be about adress merges onto things like labels. Any more guidance?

Your project is interesting, feasible but challenging ...
I do not know your level of expertise in VBA, but depending on the complexity of your output i.e. your Word tables ... the time frame needed to achieve the whole thing can vary dramatically ...

My piece of advice would be, totally outside of your project, to perform some basic, even simplistic tests to get a better flavor of what you are up against ...

Is there only one worksheet in each Excel workbook? If so, you could embed the Excel files as linked objects in the Word document. The process is: Insert, Object, Create From File then browse to find the Excel workbook. Be sure to tick the option to Link To File before clicking on the OK button.

Once this is set up in Word, you can double click on the embedded table to open it in Excel and make your changes. Alternatively, the changes can be done in Excel and update the Word document later. It works in both directions.

If you attach a sample of your workbook it will be easier to find a solution. Remember to remove/replace sensitive data before uploading the file. Look here if you need help with attachments:
