Help Recording Macros

When I try recording a macro, I'm asked where I'd like to save it. I want the macro recorded in my "Personal" startup folder. When I select "personal" I get a message stating that the personal file needs to be open in order to record, then when I click "Ok" I get the message "failed to record".

Open a blank worksheet and save this as Personal.xls into a folder defined in Tools, Options, General, 'Open Files in Folder at Startup'

Your macros can then be saved as required.
