Question Opening Excel worksheet - missing link?

For whatever reason I am unable to open any Excel files without first going to my Excel shortcut, after which I have to find the folder and file where it is stored. I have tried to repair the program, to re-install the program, to say "Open with"...but without success. Any ideas what else to try?

I believe the usual fix(es) for this problem is:

    Tools>Options>General uncheck "Ignore other Applications"
    Exit Excel and try again

If this doesn't work try to re-register Excel, close Excel first and On the Windows Taskbar

    Start>Run
    excel.exe /unregserver

    then
    Start>Run
    excel.exe /regserver
See the space between exe and /regserver

You might have to designate a full path to excel.exe.
In that case Start>Run and put
    C:\yourpath\excel.exe /regserver
    etc

    This should help

    Opening Excel - missing link?

    Hi Bryan,

Wow, I tried your first suggestion (unchecking "Ignore other Applications") and it works! I can't tell you how happy I am about this. It was so annoying having to find the file first.
Thanks a million and I am sending many good wishes your way.
