How long Excel can handle functions?

I have one quick question: how long can Excel (2003) handle mathematical formulas or logical functions in one cell?

A formula can be up to 1024 characters long.

Other limits may apply also, such as a maximum of 7 nested functions within a
formula in a cell.

Use Excel's Help and search for Specifications to find out more.

I have a function which uses multiple and/if statements of code and wish to use one cell for the outcome. Many cells will have this code. Although, as stated above, I get an error notice that my code is too long.. How does one get past this? There has got to be a way Thanks!
