Area beneath (or above) curve on graph

I was hoping anyone could tell me how, or if excel even can, calculate the area beneath a curve? I can't find an appropraite funtion to return this information in the statistics menu, but something tells me that there should be one. If anyone knows that would be great.

I am actually graphing depth of streams, so my curves are concave-down. If the function to work out area beneath a curve can be altered to work out the area *above* one, then the formula would be very useful...and I would be eternally grateful.

    Thanks!

This is quite complex and I don't know if you can do it. sounds like you need a calculus addin
