    Numeric keypad

Is there still a shortcut to enter numbers with the keypad without using Num
Lock? Back in the "olden days," I could use a combination like Ctrl or
maybe it was Shift and have access to the numeric keypad without using the
Num Lock key. This was good for a few quick numeric entries when I mostly
navigating through the document with the arrows, etc. on the keypad.
    Thanks, Jeannine

Shift key works. But it does exactly the opposite: hold shift to navigate.

Most desktops have a separate set of navigation keys that you can use,
keeping the keypad available for numbers. I assume, though, that you
might be using a laptop, in which case Sphere's answer is fine.
