I have the Swedish version of Excel so my translations may be wrong but...
I mark 2 empty cells, rightclick and choose "Format cells..." but in the second tab for Adjustment, "Merge cells" are shadowed. Why?

Maybe your worksheet is protected?

No if it was protected you wouldn't be able to select Format.
When the check box is greyed out it usually means that one cell is already
merged and the other is not. If you click on the grey tick it will brighten
and merge all cells or click on it again and it will unmerge all cells.

The checkbox for merge cells don't react on mouseclicks, it is always greyed. And the same apply whatever cells I select... But as a hint I notice that the menu Tool/Protect/Protect Sheet and workbook is also greyed.
Problem is solved, the worksheet was shared![]()
