When you press the spacebar, it selects the current cell for editing.
Iif you want to move from cell to cell then press the Tab Key.

That's true, but while editing text in a cell the space bar should perform

While editing text, wouldn't you use the arrow keys?

It works for me.
While in edit mode use the space bar to put spaces between the typed
characters.
Then press Enter to finish.

Just a note.
Maybe your keyboard Spacebar is faulty. Tip the keyboard upside down and
give it a good shake to dispel those bread crumbs. Otherwise take it apart,
carefully, and dislodged the dust from underneath.
The Mouse could probably use a good clean.
