    pivot chart mystery fields

I've been given the task to reverse engineer an excel pivot chart that
an ex-employee created. When i look at the data source it pulls in all
the fields from a particular table from an access database. However,
once it gets to Step 3, and i select Layout, all of a sudden there are
these extra fields that have appeared from no where!

The data in these extra fields is used as grouping for the pivot chart.

There is nothing in the query telling it to create extra fields, it just
    pulls everything from the table.

When i told the chart to list all formulas (thinking they might be
calculated fields) it gave me a blank list.

I'm totally stumped on what to do. Can anyone help me out? Where can i
go to view calculated fields (if that's what these are)? What else
    could these be?

    keaven,

Try selecting a cell in the Pivot Table, then choose PivotTable / Wizard.... from the PT
commandbar. Then step backward through the wizard using the "Back" button... it may show the
multiple ranges or external tables that were consolidated to form the one PT.

I have tried that This is where i start pulling my hair out... when
i step back i find that the pivot table is connect to an single table,
not a query. In step 2 of the wizard i can see all the fields being
imported, they all look fine. Then, in step 3 when it sais everything
is ready to go, i click on the 'layout' button and in the available
fields there are extra ones that are NOT there in the field list during
    step 2.

Is it possible that there are hidden columns in the data range that the
pivot table is being generated from?

    Hi Keaven

Try right clicking on the field that has the grouping, choose Group and see
what the table has been grouped by.
Are theses the "mysterious" headings that you see?

    Regards

    Roger:

When I right click on the field, I select 'Group and Show Detail' then
select 'Group' from the list that follows. When I do, I get an error
message that reads, 'Cannot Group that selection.'
