Euro symbol not appearing when formatted to do so

When i format cells to show the € symbol in the currency format it appears as
a| instead, can anyone explain why this is happening, it happened even when i
opened the document on another pc.

    Liz,

You can format the cell as

    "€ "#,##0.00;[Red]-" € "#,##0.00

which should show as you would wish it to.

When i do that the whole number appears as #####, i ended up being able to
fomat the cells individually but i had to put the size at 75% if i put it to
50% the euro symbol goes back to a | sign, i even tried reinstalling excel.

When you see a cell with a number that's showing ####, it's usually because the
    column isn't wide enough.

You could try widening the columnwidth or making the font smaller.

size. I dont know why but hey!! I'll just have to leave the page size to
    anything above 50%!!!
    Cheers!!
