getting first few characters of a cell in another one

I know there's a simple way of doing this, but I can't remember how at the
    moment.

I need to have a cell return the first 3 characters of another cell.

    Example

    A1 B1
    Example Exa

Could someone please remind me how to do this?

    Thanks.

    Try...

    =LEFT(A1,3)

    Hope this helps!
