Can you describe the problem that you have, like what does it do
instead of work. I don't think there would be a limit to how many
people can share -- but just how many people would be sharing
at same time.

The 'limit' on sharing is 256 users. I doubt you have exceeded this. I
have encountered problems with updating shared read-only files in that
it makes Excel crash, then auto recover and continue as normal after
that.
I've had trouble with users remaining logged in to shared workbooks, even after they logged off the network.
If that's an issue for you, you could try removing the invalid users manually.
If you still have problems after that, try removing the file from shared status, and then share it again. Unfortunately, that wipes out all the revision history.
