    Drill Downs

I'm no Excel expert so I need to kow if I'm using the right terminology by referring to drill downs.

I have a front sheet in a work book the data on that front sheet is calculated from many and various worksheets.

I need to be able to click on a data item (claculation result) and get t the the original data on the relevant worksheet.
Is this referred to as a drill down? How do I achieve the desired result?
Grateful for any help for the hard of thinking..

I think the answer to your "can I do this" question is: It depends...

    If
You have unchecked Tools>Options>Edit>Edit directly in cell

Then, if you double click on one of those cells on the front sheet Excel (depending on the type of formulas you used) will take you to the source sheet and select the referenced range.

    OR

If your front sheet can be set up using a Pivot Table, then double clicking on a data cell will create a new worksheet with the supporting detail data for that cell.

    So, like I said....It depends.

    Does that help?

    Is this close? http://www.datapigtechnologies.com/f...es/pivot3.html

    See Picture:
Or...Mark one section in the Formula bar. The press the F9 button to see the value
Or..if it's a formula press the fx button - in the upper right corner. It's the same as to select from the menu Insert>Function....

    Hope something helped

    Pivot tables

Thanks Ron, that's very useful, I gues I'll have to learn about Pivot Tables to make a long term elegant solution.
