    Statistical problem

    Hello everyone
This is a short summary of my project

I have a list of patients with their data arranged into a horizontal and a vertical column into an excel datasheet. The vertical column has only a number assigned to them (1,2,3,etc up to 500), and the horizontal column has all the data from their medical history (date of birth, residence, abortions, diabetes etc up to 40 states from their medical background). On the datasheet I have is marked when a patient has the given symptom, or illness, and I use numerical data only under their date of birth and at the number of their childs and abortions they have.

I would like to create automatically relations and statistical data a software of this kind: Lets say that I want to see which is the percentage of the women that their age is between 20 and 31 years, they are coming from a specific state or town, they have already 2 or more children and they had diabetes and endometriosis. Note that I have to find a way to create automatically the “current age” of the patients because on my datasheet there is only the date of their birth, and also the software must create criteria based on numerical range i.e 20 to 31 years.

I would like to ask if there any way to accomplish all this with excel. I am not an excel master and I will really appreciate any help.

    Thanks in advance
    Peter Kalas

Preface 1: I'm not real good at this kind of spreadsheet programming.

Preface 2: Your problem sounds better suited to a true database program rather than a spreadsheet. I know less about database programs.

I don't know how well it would work, but I might try using autofilter or advanced filtering. Autofilter might not be powerful enough, but it's pretty simple to set up. Autofilter will hide the rows containing data outside of your selection criteria. However, I don't know how well it works for generating all of the stuff you want.
Advanced filter might be more suitable for what you want, which can be made to copy the desired records to another sheet where you can manipulate the filtered list. Excel Help has instructions for setting up both kinds of filters. See if that helps.
