I am currently designing attendance system for a school that I uses a database from Microsoft access and an excel file I have run into two major issues

1 I use ms query to get the names of the students from the access database into my spreadsheet but when I move the database and the excel file to directory and try to refresh the names the excel file says it can no longer find the database and I have to manually direct it to the new directory this would be fine if I was the only user but as it is for a school many teachers will be using it and I need to make it as simple as possible. Is it possible to use a root directory as the excel and access database will always be in the same folder.

2 I also need certain cells in the excel work book to be locked but when I lock the sheet (and unlock the cell where the ms query data is) and try to refresh the names I get an error saying I need to unlock the sheet is there another way I can refresh the student names list and still have other cells in the sheet protected from editing
