    Protect workbook?

I have wrote a payroll spreadsheet that I want to send to other people in the company to use. They are to send it on to there supervisor to be approved and he is to send it on to payroll. The spreadsheet is formula protected. Is there a way for the employee to protect the spreadsheet so that it can't be changed after he has entered his data and sent it on.
    Thanks for any input. JoeBed

The honest answer to your question is NO. Excel 'protection' is not intended to secure sensitive data, but rather to discourage inadvertant changes. Anyone who wants to change a sheet badly enough can find a way to break *any* worksheet or workbook password protection in a matter of minutes.

However, in your example, a password entered by an employee should prevent a supervisor and payroll from accidental changes. Do you suspect "intentional" alterations after it leaves the employee's control? Certainly, the employee should have a printout of the data for their records.

You may want to have some VBA code attached to a command button to Print a copy, ask for a password and save the file as read only.

    Good Luck
