How to set options for Auto Fill Options?

I found this thread while searching for exactly the same question. I wish I could change the default behaviour for the auto-fill. However, from the wording on your post, it appears that you may not realize that you can do a COPY CELLS by holding down the CTRL button while dragging the FILL HANDLE. I find this annoying and would like to reverse the behavious where I would have to hold down the CTRL while dragging to create a series instead of holding down the CTRL while dragging to copy cells.

I do also find some unusual behaviour in the auto-fill's determination of whether the cell contents is to be turned into a series. Usually if I drag $ amounts that are formatted as NUMBERS with 2 digits, it does a copy, unless the pennies are 00, then it creates a series. Then if I drag a partial credit card number that's prefixed with an issuer name, it always creates a series, when it should always copy. This is a cell with contents like "Citi x1234". The best thing Microsoft could do would be to add a formatting property that allows auto-fill to be disabled. The FORMAT CELLS property page is where this ENABLE AUTO_FILL property should be controlled with a checkbox.

About a month ago, I did submit a suggestion to Microsoft that they allow more control over the auto-fill. If more people also feel this way, they should also submit suggestions to Microsoft with a detailed description as to how to approach the issue. The only way I found to submit an issue to Microsoft may not be the best way. When you search their MSDN site for help on a topic, they have a feedback link on each result page.
