I have large excel files that contain macros etc and mutliple sheets. They are created from a master copy (read only) of the same file and then data etc filled in. Each new file is saved on the server in the same folder as the master copy and others. The files are over 1mb each. Sometimes after working on one of these files, when saving, an error message appears warning that "Document not saved". An item on Microsoft's site suggested a problem with macros and Excel 97 (which the machine was previously running). The machine is now updated to Excel 2000, and the same error message appears sometimes, but along with another one saying "Disc Full". The local disc and the server disc both have plenty of space.

The file can be saved to a different location (for example in a temporary folder on the local workstation) with the File/Save As command and then the original file deleted and replaced in the original file's folder with the new saved file.

It seems as though there is a reluctance to overwrite previous versions of the same file. Even if the filename is changed it will not save to the same directory as it came from. Must be saved to a different folder.

The computer is running windows 98 2nd edition with 128mb RAM. Not the fastest.

Can you help?

With thanks,

Richard Clayton
