    Question hours to pay

New user to excel 97, I am trying to convert hours to pounds sterling.
I have formatted one column to total all hours and would like to convert the total hours to pounds and pence.

    Hi!

You'll have to do better than that, newbie or not!

Hours is a measure of time.
Pounds and pence is a measure of money.

Despite the fact people say time is money, it isn't.
The only way to convert time to money is to work, I suppose....

Can you be more precise about what you are trying to do?

    Question hours to pay

I have to supply information which involves calulating costs for the amount of hours worked. With this in mind i would like to have a quick and easy spread sheet which will allow me to enter hours which would then give Total hours worked and then give a total cost from an hourly rate.

    Hi!

Have you any thoughts on your worksheet? If so, let us know what is going into it.
Names? Days? Weeks? How many pay rates and for whom? And anything else you would use if you were doing the job manually.

I am looking to just have a running total of hours and minutes
which would then give me a total cost from one hourly rate.

The idea is to be able to just input the hours worked abd have the total cost automatically calculated

    Hi!

    As a simple starter:

Put the hourly rate in D1

Put your first day's hours in A2
    Put =A2*$D$1 in B2
This will give the price of the first day's hours.
Copy B2 down B6 (all cells, representing 5 days of a week).
In B7 put =sum(B2:B6) representing the sum for the week.

If you now put hours for day 2, day 3 etc in A3, A4 etc the total will be updated in B7.

You might find it nice to format all cells which sow money amounts as currency (Format > Cells > Number > Currency)
