How do you unmerge cells?

Can anyone advice me whether there is a way to unmerge cells.

I have read on discussion groups that unless imperative, one shouldn't merge
cells as they cause problem when you come to do sorts. I now want to sort a
worksheet that has merged cells.

Any assistance would be appraciated.

Format.Cells.AlignMent - uncheck MergeCells
