removing repitition from cells...

I have an excel sheet.
all data is in column A.
================
row 1,2,3 are merged. they contain the number 1487951
row 4,5,6 are merged. they contain the number 1488310
row 7,8,9,10 are merged.they contain the number 1488398.

step 1) I select the entire column A.go to "format cells".go to "alignment".the deselect "merge cells"

the column A then becomes
row1 has data 1487951
row 2 1487951
row 3 1487951
row 4 1488310
row 5 1488310.
and so on...

But I want the output to be
row 1 1487951
row 2 1488310
row 3 1488398
etc
