    formula question. Help please.

How can I make a cell recognize whether I have a number in the cell or text in the cell. What I am trying to do is. In the same column, if there is text in the cell then I would like the cell automatically highlighted if there is a number in the cell then just display that number. Thanks in advance for the help.

You'll need to use conditional formatting.

Goto Format > Conditional Formatting and change Condition 1 to 'Formula Is' and then type this in the adjacent text box

=ISTEXT(A1) (if the cell is A1)

then click the format button and format the cell according to your wishes.

This can then be copied to other cells. Use paste special and paste formats only if you don't want to lose the data in the cells that need conditional formatting

    Cheers!
