    Excel QR Code Scanner

    Hi,

I would like to have an excel document that would manage some product installation information. On this document I would like for users to able to scan a QR code on the product with their mobile phone that would insert the serial number into the cell required. Then our user can indicate where they installed this product on in another cell.

If possible it would be awesome if they clicked on a cell, and it pulled up the camera right away for the users to scan.

    Does anything like this exist?

    Re: Excel QR Code Scanner

I am using android cell phone, and have a QR reader app.
The app can scan any barcode with phone camera,
decode it and convert to text and provide Copy text function.
I can paste the text into any app.

    Please search any app store...

Using Excel Online with a Google Sheets QR Scanner Add-On
Another option is to create this in Google Sheets and use a mobile device to access it. Google Sheets has QR code scanner add-ons that allow for easier data capture directly in the sheet.
With an add-on like QRCode Scanner, you can scan the product serial number directly into Google Sheets, which can be structured similarly to an Excel sheet.

    Re: Excel QR Code Scanner

    Thanks for the responses.

I am aware that even scanning the QR code with any camera app, will also pull the serial number up and allow it to copied to any cell. However from a mobile standpoint, that isn't very efficient when you have to consistently change screens.

We want to steer away from google sheets as our company has deployed Microsoft 365 to our users.

So what I am hearing is that Excel in itself doesn't have the ability to do what I need? I would need to purchase a totally separate product that would integrate to it? Seems like such a simple function...

Power Apps for a Seamless Mobile Interface
Power Apps is the closest Microsoft 365 tool that could provide an efficient, streamlined experience. With Power Apps, you can create a basic app that includes a QR scanner. The scanned data (like a serial number) can be set to automatically populate fields, and any other data (like installation location) can be entered immediately after scanning.
The app can save this data directly to an Excel file on OneDrive or SharePoint, so your users are still working with Excel-compatible data without needing to switch back and forth between screens or manually paste data.
Advantages: Power Apps offers a unified interface, which reduces screen switching and allows both scanning and data entry on one platform. It’s included in many Microsoft 365 plans, so you may already have access without additional cost.
