Ideas for creating a dashboard (education tracking)

    Howdy

    Cadet Progress Tracker Template.xlsx

I'm looking to try and develop a dashboard excel spreadsheet to monitor the training progress of cadets. I am really just looking for ideas about what I could do and how I could go about it

you can see on the sheet labelled ‘tracker’ that cadet details will be in column A to C.

Row 3 details all the topic areas for each different classification. At the end of the topic areas there is usually one or two columns that signify completion (Ie L3, S3 and T3 and Z3 and AA3).

What I am wanting to do is to create a dashboard on the first page that will allow me to easily audit the data on the tracker page.

I'm thinking off the top of my head I would like to be able to use a drop down selection to work out which cadets need to study specific aspects of a certain qualification. For example, F3-K3… on the tracker page I may put something like ‘yes’ or ‘no’, and then on the dashboard page, I might choose the classification from a drop-down (in this example ‘cadet basic training’), and I would like the dashboard to list the cadet’s name and which areas of the basic training syllabus they have yet to complete. Alternatively, using the same data set (‘cadet basic training’), I might search for the cadet’s name and it lists me what they have still to complete on a specific qualification.

At the moment I'm still trying to work out exactly what I want the dashboard to show me, but I do not have enough in-depth excel knowledge to understand what it potentially could do for me?

What is obvious is that I will manually complete columns D-AS on the tracker sheet with some form of code (yes or no) and it is this that I would like the dashboard sheet to be able to work with. Also, I hope that the system would be adaptable so I could add syllabus to it such as from columns AW to AY.

The organisation does have a management system, but this is quite slow and doesn't allow for tracking of the individual components of the classifications, just whether they have achieved the overall classification or not. We obviously need to know exactly where each cadet is during their classification training so we can target their training suitably

Any suggestions as a starter for ten would be gratefully appreciated

Whilst I appreciate you're not quite sure what you want to show on the dashboard, we're even more in dark, especially with no data to work with.

Maybe add some dummy data and mock up anything you think so far you may want on the dashboard and we can provide formulas to help do that.

    Ah, good point

    Please find attached

I'd want any data dashboard / Pivot to ignore the blank filed. Ie row 8 is blank from Col V onwards as that cadet hasnt got to that qualifcation yet.

    Administrative Note:

Is your forum profile showing ONLY the oldest Excel PRODUCT that you need this to work for?

Members will tailor the solutions they offer to the Office PRODUCT (Excel, NOT Windows) that you have. Please check that your forum profile is up-to-date in this respect. If you aren't sure, in Excel go to File | Account and report what it says below the MS logo at the top of that page. If your product is for Mac, please also state this.

The three most recent Excel products are Excel 2019, Excel 2021 and MS365 - if you are using MS365, please give this name along with the version number in your profile (e.g. MS365 Version 2306). This is in the About Excel section further down the Account page.

    Thanks.
