    Autofilling date but for 1900s

    Hi!
I'm quite new to this, so excuse me if my explanations aren't very clear.

So, basically I have a small problem. As you know, when you type "8/1/24" in a cell (in a dd/mm/yy format) Excel can automatically convert it into "8/1/2024" (now, dd/mm/yyyy). However, I'm working with dates from the past century, the 1900s. Therefore, I would like that Excel recognized that "24" from the year not as 2024, but as 1914; so it would outcome "8/1/1924" automatically.

    Thanks!

    M.

    [I'm using MS Office 365]

Edit: Instead of "...from the year not as 2024, but as 1914." I meant "...from the year not as 2024, but as 1924."

    Welcome to the forum.

Not sure I get why you'd want 24 to be seen as 1914 rather than 1924, but maybe I'm not quite following your logic.

I think the only answer to this would be to set the computer clock back to a date in the 1900s, but I may be wrong. The other way would probably be VBA, but coding won't work if you are using the browser version - are you? If VBA is an option, I can move the thread for you, but any solution will compromise all dates, so if you also needed to enter 21st century dates, it would complicate matters.

Other than entering dates for this century and then converting them with formulae or code afterwards, I don't think there's a solution.

Here's an old tutorial that rather supports my initial thoughts: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...d-5ac31669214f

And this about the rule: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/of...t-year-numbers

In Microsoft Windows, you can change the way two-digit years are interpreted for all Windows programs that you have installed.

    Windows 10

    1. In the search box on the taskbar, type control panel, and then select Control Panel.

    2. Under Clock, Language and Region, click Change date, time, or number formats

    3. Click Regional and Language Options.

    4. In the Region dialog box, click Additional settings.

    5. Click the Date tab.

    6. In the When a two-digit year is entered, interpret it as a year between box, change the upper limit for the century.

    7. As you change the upper-limit year, the lower-limit year automatically changes.

    8. Click OK.

Hi! Thank you very much for your fast answer!! Firstly, yes, there was a typo in my original post, I meant 1924 and not 1914, my bad. I still don't know how to code or use VBA, but your answer concerning the Control Panel worked!
