    Welcome to the Forum CJBookie!

What do mean by "highlight"? Do you mean you are trying to apply color fill to all the cells in a row or column? Or just select the row or column?
From what I've been reading, highlighting rows/columns is now an automatic thing
I have no idea what you mean by that. What exactly is automatic now that was not automatic before? The one thing you do need code for is to actually change the fill color of cells dynamically for the entire row and column of the cell that is currently selected. But that does not sound like what you are talking about.

What version did you use previously?

Any chance you can show us a screenshot to illustrate the issue you are having? (Any user can attach an image in a post.)

Prior to this version, I could click on the number of the row, or the letter of the column, and that row or column would "highlight" with an outline around the selected row/column.
Now, clicking on the number or letter does nothing.

It appears that one can choose to set the highlighting to be automatic, but it isn't the highlighting of the row or column as previous, it highlights the whole cells.
Prior to 2021 v. we used 2011. That worked just fine for us. More intuitive.

WHY would one have to add code? That should have been done within the software, as it was previously. A stupid step back, if you ask me.

I don't have Excel on my computer, but do have Mac Numbers, which works the way I want it to. It's my husband who is using Excel. But, Numbers acts how we want it to, and how Excel used to act. I attached images of what I'm talking about.

Screenshot 2023-10-10 at 2.29.12 PM.png Notice "highlight" around the cell edges, in row, and column. THIS is what we want, but for it to happen ONLY when we click on the number or letter of the row/column, and only temporarily.
