    Table Tennis ELO ratings spreadsheet?

    Hi all,

Many thanks in advance for any help you can give here. I downloaded a spreadsheet which I think is laid out how I want it to be. A simple way to record sets won down the left hand side, and then each players rating change after that game. It means I can scale the spreadsheet accordingly and see what is happening game by game. It's a bit long winded, but otherwise fine for me.

However, my main problem with the spreadsheet is that the ratings "increase" or "decrease" following a win isn't scaled in the way I would want it to be. For example, we have Simon starting on 1900 points, and Jess starting on 1300 points (based on their current estimated skill level), which I would consider a huge gap. When Simon beats Jess, his points increase isn't scaled to her rating, but is instead scaled to his own rating. The higher Simon is, the less points he will gain... as opposed to also factoring in that Jess is a much lower rated player so he should get almost no points increase by beating a lower player.

Is there any way of setting it up so I can easily tweak the points +/- based on my preference? The kfactor at the top left might be aiming to do that, but I don't see it as very effective. Also, for some reason the kfactor only applies to cell E2 for some reason, then there is a static "30" factor seemingly added on the rest of the cells. I'm therefore a bit confused and not understanding this spreadsheet very well.

    Administrative Note:

Is your forum profile showing the version of Excel that you need this to work for?

Members will tailor the solutions they offer to the version of Office (Excel, NOT Windows) that you have. Please check that your forum profile is up-to-date in this respect. If you aren't sure, in Excel go to File | Account and report what it says below the MS logo at the top of that page. If your version is for Mac, please also state this.

The three most recent versions of Excel are Excel 2019, Excel 2021 and MS365 - if you are using MS365, please give this name along with the release number in your profile (e.g. MS365 Version 2211). This is in the About Excel section further down the Account page.

    Thanks.
    Ali
