Excel Auto Inserting Single Quote In All Cells

I recently experienced a catastrophic crash of my computer. After reloading an image file of my hard drive, Excel has been
automatically inserting a single quotation mark ( ' ) before all text and symbols. If numbers are included with text the same
occurs ... in there are ONLY numbers in the cell ... no insertion of single quote.

I've looked through as many Excel settings as I could find. Nothing was found related to this issue.

Do you have an answer how to get rid of these insertions ?
