    forgotten password

    Hello:
    I am using Excel 365.
I have a client who wants to use a workbook created by an ex-employee. He does not know the password and wants to modify the workbook.
I thought in the past I was able to make a copy of a workbook/worksheet without a password and at least be able to keep the formatting. This workbook is totally locked down, so that I cannot even copy the contents or structure.
After spending a few hours on this, I find the methods I used expired with the advent of current versions of Excel.

I find it really hard to believe that making a copy of a protected workbook is impossible. I have tried every version of "Save As", including all options. Nothing seems to work. I was even able to open up the 'workbook.xml' via zip, and the password is right there! But, it will still not unlock the workbook.

If anybody has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it.

The whole point of passwrod prorecting a file is to prevent ANY unauthorized access to the file.

    Having said that,
