    Simple formulas and spill errors

    Hello,

I'm working on my payroll timesheets and when it comes time to process it in our system, I normally have to import a CSV file which I usually copy and paste each employee's time manually. This takes way too long. This is the reason why I'm trying to have this CSV file to fill in the info for me automatically, so I can then copy and paste it all at once to import.

My issues are #SPILL! errors and other simple formulas that won't copy the data. I don't quite understand why I'm getting some of these from simple formulas.. All I'm doing is equals and going to the sheet that I want to copy the data and clicking enter and I'm getting these errors. Is it because I'm copying some info that is part of a drop down list? Maybe someone can share some light on this for me?

    Thank you.

    Please see attached.

    Try this:

    ='All Timesheets'!C4

    etc.

You do not need to designate ranges for merged cells.

Merged cells are to be avoided.

It's because you are referencing multiple cells, just reference the first cell
    Formula: copy to clipboard

As you are getting spill error, you are obviously not using 2013, so you might want to update your profile

Ok, I see my spill errors had that issue.. but how about the other ones that didn't have merged cells? How did you get those to work?

Thank you Fluff. How about all the other cells that didn't have a merged cell formula?

In what way are the other formulae giving errors?

Re: Simple formulas and spill errors

This is because they are set to text. I have corrected them in my attachment.

One way to handle this bug is this:

    1. Copy CUT the formula.
    2. Set the cell formatting to General.
    3. Paste the formula back into the cell.

If that takes care of your original question, please select Thread Tools from the menu link above and mark this thread as SOLVED.
