LAMBDA and REDUCE functions no longer available on Excel Online

Until 24 hours ago, I was using LAMBDA and REDUCE functions on Microsoft Excel Online. But to my surprise, now when I use them, they are no longer available and return a #NAME? error. When I open the workbook where I used those functions previously, the functions are prefixed with "_xlfn." indicating that those functions are not available in this excel version. Is anyone still able to use those functions on Excel Online? Were they recently removed?

I don't have Lambda or any of it's functions with xl online, although I have them on my desktop.

It's really weird, I can swear they were functional on excel online until just a few hours. Not sure why they were taken down.

Even more surprising is the fact that both these functions are available on the mobile app.

Both are meant to be available, but to insiders only. My guess is that they have been temporarily withdrawn, maybe whilst something related to them is fixed.

That's rather self-deprecating Glenn - you seem to manage to harness the power of these new features far faster than I ever could!!!

In fact, I wait for you to work it out, then reverse engineer solutions you give using them ...

Re: LAMBDA and REDUCE functions no longer available on Excel Online

For the last week or so, I have been struggling to understand MMULT. Anything I read is way too heavy... it seems to involve endless permutations of TRANSPOSE, COLUMNS and ROWS, raised to the power of something or other... Between MMULT and XPath 1's inner workings I'm frazzled.

The trouble is that I'm a bit tired of the same old, same old, here and want to learn some new stuff (WHY I want to learn new stuff is far from clear...). I guess I'm just trying to teach an old dog new tricks, purely for the hell of it

I need the "Janet and John encounter MMULT" and the "The Ladybird Book of XPath 1" versions.

Re: LAMBDA and REDUCE functions no longer available on Excel Online

LOL! There's nothing wrong with wanting to continue to learn - I do, too, and would readily welcome the Ladybird books you mention - please write and publish them as soon as you've muddled through it.

I'm a bit of a magpie myself, and tend to broaden my toolbox by acquiring complex formulae and then working out how to adapt them. This almost always has to happen for me before I am able to build from scratch, and I think ties in with the way my linguistic brain tends to operate. Langauge learning is all to do with reverse engineering, really.

I always think that the day I stop wanting to learn will be the end of me. I always love watching David Attenborough (to whom I am distantly related and through that relationship found that I was working with a distant cousin before I retired, who himself is rather closer related to the great man) - his childlike sense of wonder and fascination is really great to see in someone so advanced in years, and I am sure it's what keeps him going.
