Moving part of a cell contents to the next column

    Hello everyone!
I class myself as an Excel novice but generally able to cope with PC stuff, having used computers since the 1980s. However, I have managed to skirt round programming macros etc. in Excel, which I now regret. As a translator, I often need to process glossaries provided by customers, colleagues etc. before reading them into my translation software. In the present case, I have a situation similar to ones discussed here but with a twist. I have entries like:

    A24: remove material (manually)
    A36: relax (pressure increase, prestress)

and all I want to do is shift everything in parentheses to the next column.

    A24: remove material B24: (manually)
A36: relax B36: (pressure increase, prestress)

I can then just delete all the parentheses in column B and bob's your uncle. Those entries are then used to create definitions in the translation software.
Many of the cells in column A do not have any parentheses.

    A. I don't know (yet) how to adapt the answers provided here to do that
    B. What on earth does one do with the formula when one has it? Copy it into each of the 51255 rows in the table? (Yes, it's a big one!).

    I would appreciate some assistance!

Look at the Text to Columns feature using your opening bracket as the delimiter.

    Crikey, AliGW!
That's got it sorted in no time! Amazing and many thanks.
Excel is probably the one Microsoft product that is just unbeatable. It is so incredibly powerful - one just needs to be pushed in the right direction to experiment with its on-board functionality.

Regards again from (now sunny) Germany!
